A typical elastic modulus for a gel polymer electrolyte is 10 MPa, which is two orders of magnitude below that of a typical liquid electrolyte. [14] Gel polymer electrolytes also shown specific applications for lithium-ion batteries to replace current organic liquid electrolytes. This type of electrolyte has also been shown to be able to be ...
All-solid-state electrolytes are furthermore divided into inorganic solid electrolyte (ISE), solid polymer electrolyte (SPE) and composite polymer electrolyte (CPE). On the other hand, a QSSE, also called gel polymer electrolyte (GPE), is a freestanding membrane that contains a certain amount of liquid component immobilized inside the solid matrix.
Dry polymer electrolytes differ from liquid and gel electrolytes in that salt is dissolved directly into the solid medium. Usually it is a relatively high-dielectric constant polymer (PEO, PMMA, PAN, polyphosphazenes, siloxanes, etc.) and a salt with low lattice energy.
Energy gels are also referred to as endurance gels, sports gels, nutritional gels, and carbohydrate gels. [1] Energy gels are packaged in small, single-serve plastic packets. Each packet has a strip with a small notch at the top that can be peeled off to reveal an opening through which the gel can be consumed.
An Ion gel (or Ionogel) is a composite material consisting of an ionic liquid immobilized by an inorganic or a polymer matrix. [1] [2] [3] The material has the quality of maintaining high ionic conductivity while in the solid state. To create an ion gel, the solid matrix is mixed or synthesized in-situ with an ionic liquid.
Solid electrolytes greatly reduce the risk of thermal runaway—a primary cause of battery fires. Because most solid electrolytes are nonflammable, solid-state batteries have a much lower fire risk and do not require as many safety systems, which can further increase energy density at the cell pack level.

Using a gel electrolyte instead of a liquid allows the battery to be used in different positions without leaking. Gel electrolyte batteries for any position were first used in the late 1920s, and in the 1930s, portable suitcase radio sets allowed the cell to be mounted vertically or horizontally (but not inverted) due to valve design.
