According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 15.3 square miles (39.6 km 2), of which 15.2 square miles (39.3 km 2) are land and 0.1 square miles (0.3 km 2), or 0.67%, are water. [1] The entire township is within the watershed of Lycoming Creek, which flows south to the West Branch Susquehanna River at Williamsport.
Spartansburg is located near the northeast corner of Crawford County at (41.821980, -79.685957 It is surrounded by Sparta Township, a separate municipality.. Route 77 passes through the center of the borough, leading northeast 8 miles (13 km) to Corry and southwest 28 miles (45 km) to Meadville, the Crawford County seat.
