Princess Twilight Sparkle is a fictional character who appears in the fourth incarnation (also referred to as the fourth generation or "G4") of Hasbro's My Little Pony toyline and media franchise, beginning with My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic (2010–2019), and later in the franchise's fifth incarnation as well.
Later works put Sunset Shimmer, introduced in the first film as the main antagonist who betrayed her former teacher Princess Celestia but later reformed, in a leading role in place of Equestria's Twilight Sparkle. In these episodes, Twilight Sparkle (Tara Strong) learns her brother, Shining Armor (Andrew Francis), will be marrying Princess Cadance (Britt McKillip). The show follows a studious unicorn pony named Twilight Sparkle as her mentor Princess Celestia guides her to learn about friendship in the town of Ponyville. Twilight becomes close friends with five other ponies: Applejack, Rarity, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, and Pinkie Pie.
Princess Cadance visits Ponyville to spend the day with Twilight, who anticipates quiet bonding time with her sister-in-law, while Fluttershy departs to see the Breezies. Twilight's friends promise to not let anything disrupt her and Cadance's time together as the last times they saw each other, the fate of Equestria hung in the balance.
