Actually it’s the same motivation that explains the BIG having an interest in FSU; the expansion of conferences is becoming more competitive and if one conference expands, it prompts other conferences to catch up.

I recall many on this site who repeated that same misinformation about UL qualification to the ACC. It is all about money, and many of the historical perceptions have evaporated since the conference expansion. FSU doesn’t deserve anything, but it’s a mistake to minimize their attraction to the BIG, along with UNC and the Charlotte TV market.
The Big 12 ultimately deciding to stick with a 10-member conference last fall after teasing the idea of expansion is a perfectly fine decision. I have always felt that expansion for the sake of expansion is not a wise strategy, even if it results in the addition of a conference championship game.
