Avast Free Anti-Virus Scan Quik Scan and Full Scan « on: August 04, 2015, 08:25:56 AM » With the most recent avast free anti virus update - I have had to uninstall and reinstall the software a couple of times; plus I did have avast cleanup and it was not working on my windows 7 home premium os; so I uninstalled that.

So I loaded the page up in my old copy of Internet Explorer only to get a message reading "AVG has detected a virus on your computer!". Well that's obviously fake, I don't even *HAVE* AVG on my computer! So I click X but it still shows the fake virus scanning animation in Internet Explorer.
I just tried avast! on another computer. First I made a normal scan and it found 3 files with the Win32:CIH-Monaa virus. I quarantined the files and them I tried a thorough scan. To my big surprise it then found one more file with the Win:CIH-Monaa virus, why? Also I can't find any information on the Win:CIH-Monaa virus a all.
After a full Avast scan and another F-secure scan, I seemed to finally have eliminated everything. Things seemed okay on the computer, though I've stayed away from banking and such on this computer. But after a week or two, Avast is blocking malicious sites, sometimes every 2 or 3 minutes, and lasting for several minutes.

I would suggest running the avg8.x removal tool also to ensure there are remnants. Some .rar files prove troublesome if they are multiple layer, but as you found, before you can run them they have to be extracted and the act of extraction creates new files and these new (uncompressed files) should be scanned by the standard shield and alert if infected.
Hi, I noticed some strange behaviour on my pc and decided to start Avast Free Smart Scan. However, it got from 15% to about 17, and then jumped back to 15% again after aprox. 30 minutes.
