The Pocono Record was founded as the Stroudsburg Daily Times [2] on April 2, 1894.. In 1946 the newspaper was purchased by James H. Ottaway Sr., becoming the third newspaper in what would become the Ottaway Community Newspapers chain, which was purchased by Dow Jones and Company in the 1980s.
Stroudsburg is part of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre media market. Since 1947, WPCO-840 AM has served the community. Co-owned WSBG-93.5 FM began in 1964. Television stations WBRE-28, WNEP-16, and WYOU-22 each have news bureaus in downtown Stroudsburg. The headquarters of the Pocono Record newspaper is also located in Stroudsburg.
After his wife Lois's death in 2002, Wilkins moved to Palm Springs, California, before finally settling in Las Vegas, Nevada. He died of heart failure on May 25, 2015, at the age of ninety, and his funeral was held at Congregation Beth Israel in Honesdale, Pennsylvania. He was buried in Honesdale. [1] [2] [5]
