Luffy made his debut as a young boy who acquires the properties of rubber after accidentally eating one of the Devil Fruits that belonged to "Red Hair" Shanks. Monkey D. Luffy is the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates , and dreamt of being a pirate since childhood from the influence of his idol and mentor Red-Haired Shanks .
The story follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, a boy whose body gained the properties of rubber after unintentionally eating a Devil Fruit. With his crew, named the Straw Hat Pirates, Luffy explores the Grand Line in search of the world's ultimate treasure known as the "One Piece" in order to become the next King of the Pirates.
All the members of the crew are big fans of Luffy and named their ship "Going Luffy-senpai" after him. The crew consists of a total of 56 members including: Bartolomeo ( バルトロメオ ) is a former super rookie and captain of the crew, who has the power to create invisible barriers around him thanks to the Barrier-Barrier Fruit.
Luffy is found on an island beach, where he saves a little girl, Medaka, from two pirates. All the villagers, including Medaka's father, have been abducted by Ganzack and his crew and forced into labour. After hearing that Ganzack also stole all the food, Luffy and Zoro rush out to retrieve it. As they fight the pirates, one of them kidnaps Medaka.
Luffy attempt to fight back using Armament Haki, but his punches go right though him, much to Luffy's confusion, as Trebol question Luffy's assumption of his Devil Fruit being a Logia. Law tells Luffy that fighting Trebol is futile, while revealing Trebol's slime is in fact mucus, before he begins to insult Trebol and the other executives.
22 years later, Monkey D. Luffy is one of those searching for the treasure. As a child, Luffy unwittingly ate the Gum-Gum Fruit, a "Devil Fruit" that gives him elasticity powers. He winds up on the ship of the pirate Alvida. Luffy defeats Alvida and escapes with her cabin boy, Koby, who dreams of becoming a Marine.
When Luffy prepares to attack the Kraken, Caribou has Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji put on the Flutter Kick Coating suits, allowing them to exit the bubble. Chopper uses his Guard Point technique and Robin uses her Mil Fleur: Gigantesco Mano technique to prevent the ship from taking any damage while Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji prepare to attack.
Luffy's crew soon arrives in Dressrosa and, entering the tournament under the alias "Lucy", he gets to the final round. Recognizing Luffy, Sabo reminisces about their shared childhood: Sabo and Ace refuse to befriend Luffy, but change their mind after he is kidnapped by a pirate and beaten for refusing to give away the location of their treasure.
