For me, the solution was: - Run Registry Editor as Administrator. - Go to Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Policy Manager. - Set value of AllowUserUIAccess to 1. Good to see you in Microsoft Community. You can repair/reset Windows Security app by the following steps: Clear the Microsoft Store cache. "Win" logo key + "R" to open "Run", type "wsreset.exe", and press Enter (this will open a blank " Command Prompt" window, which will close and automatically open the Microsoft Store after about 10 seconds).

Fix: 1. press Windows Key + R. 2. type regedit. 3. locate the following path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS DEFENDER\. 4. Right Click this file and select permissions. 5. press Advanced. 6. where it says owner press change. 7. change the owner to your username.
Once you enter that command restart your computer and check the Windows Defender. If issue persists, check for updates and install any updates available. -Press Windows key + X -Go to Settings -Click Update and Security -Check for Updates and install all updates available. Restart once done and check the Windows Security.

I read that as of late last month, Microsoft 365 Personal includes Microsoft Defender and that it's a separate app. However, Windows comes with Windows Security which used to be called Defender years ago.
