The templates below make use of {{OSM Location map}} to provide a formatted, content-rich map of a particular place in the world. They can provide a stand-alone framed map, or in many cases will successfully integrate with an infobox.

Location map templates as of 5 Nov 2014. To find the best location map template covering a given place, open the SVG file in a Web browser and use arrow keys and zoom function. Hovering over a region shows its name and highlights it. Clicking it loads its page. This is a list of all Location map templates as of July 22, 2021.
These SVG maps have user-editable sections (any text editor) to allow creation of more maps on more topics. Just paste in a list of states and values.
