Edvard Hagerup Grieg (/ ɡ r iː ɡ / GREEG, Norwegian: [ˈɛ̀dvɑʈ ˈhɑ̀ːɡərʉp ˈɡrɪɡː]; 15 June 1843 – 4 September 1907) was a Norwegian composer and pianist.He is widely considered one of the leading Romantic era composers, and his music is part of the standard classical repertoire worldwide.
Grieg is still popular in Norway, especially for his anti-fascist poetry. The pre-war controversies in which he was involved were eclipsed by his war record. Grieg was a friend of English novelist Graham Greene, who wrote about various aspects of Grieg's life and wartime career in his 1980 biographical work Ways of Escape.
Grieg deeply respected his fellow musician and took no delay in producing the work. The march was originally written as a piano piece in A minor; Grieg also produced transcriptions of it for brass choir and wind band, in B ♭ minor. Grieg valued the work greatly, bringing it along on all of his travels.
