Vicksburg is a historic city in Warren County, Mississippi, United States.It is the county seat. The population was 21,573 at the 2020 census. [5] Located on a high bluff on the east bank of the Mississippi River across from Louisiana, Vicksburg was built by French colonists in 1719.
In 1891, the Uptown Vicksburg Historic District was designed and arranged by city founder Rev. Newit Vick, and his son-in-law John Lane. [2] The Uptown district includes sixty-eight contributing buildings, one contributing site, one contributing fountain, and three contributing monuments.
Pemberton's Headquarters, also known as the Willis-Cowan House, is a historic house museum at 1018 Crawford Street in Vicksburg, Mississippi.Built in 1836, it served as the headquarters for Confederate General John C. Pemberton during most of the 47-day Siege of Vicksburg.
