The Brand New Heavies are an English band formed in 1985, consisting of Simon Bartholomew, Andrew Levy, and Jan Kincaid. After the addition of N'Dea Davenport in 1990, the group experienced mainstream success and pioneered a new genre called acid jazz. The Brand New Heavies released their debut self-titled album in June 1990.

She declined Stewart’s offer at the time due to his requirement for her to relocate to London, England. Later to ink a solo development deal with Delicious Vinyl, who made introductions to her future bandmates, The Brand New Heavies who at the time had no singer. With the core band members based in London, she decided to relocate there.

On 2 March 1992, The Brand New Heavies was released internationally on Full Frequency Range Recordings (FFRR). [10] The international version omitted the song "Shake Down" and included two new songs: "Got to Give" and a cover version of "Don't Let It Go to Your Head". Shelter is an album by The Brand New Heavies, released in 1997 on the Delicious Vinyl record label. It is the only album by the Brand New Heavies to feature singer-songwriter Siedah Garrett as a member of the band, joining them in 1996 and leaving in early 1998 to concentrate on her own songwriting.
