The 6-8, is an example of overselling and under delivering. The proclaimed ballistic numbers never were possible in the original chambering, at sane pressures. So then there was the SPC II, and a whole pile of other variations. The nuts and bolts are that the 270 bullets you could hunt game with are very limited, due to velocity.

Recently put togrther an 18" barreled AR-15 in 6.8mm SPC SPEC II w/1:11 twist rate. I have about a dozen of the medium burning rifle powders but have setteled on AA/DP2200. It's an 8 lb jug I bought back in the mid 1990's. I have loaded the Barnes 95gr TTSX with 30gr of 2200 and 31gr with the Barnes 85gr TSX.

The likely candidates are in the 6.5-7mm range. I don't see the 6.8 SPC as a candidate as it's limited by the M16/4 platform. Particularly it can't be used with longer bullets needed for accuracy and to penetrate body armor. The M16/4 platform is a nonstarter as the army wants a high level of integration with "advanced electronics".

Ballistics with Remington's 115 gr. bullets are interesting: more energy at 300 yds. than the 30/30 at 100 yds. Trajectory similar to the .308 150 gr. According to writer Layne Simpson, it should be a great low recoil deer load with a 130 gr. bullet at 2400 fps. Out to 200 yds. Lets hear about your experiences with the cartridge.

6.8 spc. I have put together a good handful of 556, 224 val and 300 hmr and all end up running nearly flawless. 6.8spc is another story. I have 2 that just do not run reliable enough or run at all such as to be a hunting rifle. Both have Wilson combat 18 in rifle barrels with rifle gas system, fixed gas block, rifle length stocks, rifle buffer ...

I got involved in 6.8 SPC variants a couple years ago and decided to whip up a fast mover that would do for a 22-250 in a semi-auto. Just one of six I am working with. The rifle is a 1:8 24" Black Hole barrel in an Aero upper with a BTE gas block and FF tube and a DPMS ...

6.8 SPC for Deer/hog Hunting. I've been researching different calibers designed to give a AR15 more punch than the standard 223/556 round. I've decided to go with the 6.8 SPC based on the fact that my farthest shots will be at most 300 yds and mostly much closer. I've never hunted with a black rifle so this next fall will be the first time I've ...
