It is ideal for long-distance shooting. Let’s explore some of the specifics with this look at 6.5 Creedmoor ballistics. In this article, we’re discussing 6.5 Creedmoor ammo – not to be confused with the 6mm Creedmoor. The 6mm version is a necked-down version of the 6.5 CM with a .243” bullet instead of the 6.5 CM’s .264″.
While there is a debate over speed, it appears that the .30-06 Springfield is the clear winner in energy, at least muzzle energy. Downrange, however, the 6.5 Creedmoor seems to excel. To keep things simple, let’s look at the two 125-grain Winchester products we referenced above: the .30-06 soft-point and the 6.5 Creedmoor polymer tipped.
An in-depth look at 6.5 Grendel ballistics with velocity, energy and drop data for the most popular loads among American shooters. 6.5 Grendel ballistics offer shooters a NATO-standardized round with a few benefits that might have you swayed over the slightly smaller 223/5.56 loads out there and the slightly larger .308.
The 6.5 Creedmoor drops 3.8 inches at 200 yards and 14.1 after 300 yards. Advantage: 6.5 Creedmoor (Slight advantage) Recoil. This is the first category where we see a distinct winner. Most people agree that the 6.5 Creedmoor, because of its intelligent and strategic design, has less recoil than the .308 Winchester.
However if you want t go hunting at extended ranges I would go for the 7mm rem mag. @ 1000 metres the 7rm will still have 1000 ft*lbs of energy which is enough for most medium game. I thing the 6.5 creedmoor won't really cut it at 1000 and beyond though it s a lovely cartridge and I use it at 800 metres and less.
Ballistics Compared. Sizes and product availability are important, but when the rounds are loaded into the weapon and the bullets are sent downrange, how do these cartridges perform? To find out, we’ll look at the stats from the three available 6mm ARC rounds, all from Hornady, and compare them to the closest possible cartridges in the 6.5 ...
The performance of the .223 Remington (5.56) was inadequate for both distance and terminal ballistics, so researchers at Hornady looked at the 6.5 Grendel. While close, it simply couldn’t defeat the barriers required, especially at a distance. (We compare the 6.5 Grendel to 6mm ARC in-depth in this article.)

Hello, I am getting into long range target shooting and rarely deer hunting. I can not decide whether to buy a 6.5 Creedmoor, 7mm-08, or .308. I am looking for something that can give me a good ballistic coefficient, barrel life, accuracy both at 200 and 1000 yards, twist rate, and enough power down range.
Those rifles were chambered for rounds like 308 Win and 6.5 Creedmoor. Recoil and Other Considerations. The 224 Valkyrie certainly shines in terms of recoil. Federal’s .22 caliber round generates as little as half as much recoil as the 6.5 Creedmoor. It may deliver only a quarter as much kick as a 308 Win’s 180 grain bullet.
