U.S. National Badminton Championships 2019. The U.S. National Badminton Championships is a tournament organized by USA Badminton (originally the American Badminton Association) and held annually to crown the best badminton players in the United States. The tournament started in Chicago in 1937.
In 1992, badminton debuted as a Summer Olympic sport with four events: men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, and women's doubles; [2] mixed doubles was added four years later. At high levels of play, the sport demands excellent fitness: players require aerobic stamina , agility , strength , speed, and precision.
The time period between 1949 and 1967 was the biggest period of badminton popularity in the United States. In 1949, David Freeman brought the United States its first ever world championship title. Freeman won the Men's Singles at the All-England Championships. Additionally, between 1949 and 1967 the United States won 23 championships in badminton.
