If I'm hunting in the morning, I'll cock the bow at the vehicle, where I can use more light to see what I'm doing. Up to my stand, bow stays unloaded until legal shooting time. Afternoons I just may wait and cock the bow at the stand site. I generally DO NOT walk around the woods with a loaded crossbow...

So doing a ton of research online and searching for a new crossbow scope I came across a 1-4x daylight bright LPVO (low power variable optic) that is absolutely awesome for hunting! It’s a Swampfox Tomahawk 2 with the BFO (bright fiber optic) single point reticle. I got the Blue.

I use a tree saddle while archery hunting. Since I am getting an x-bow next week, I am anticipating taking it out and using it with the tree saddle. I am sold on the tree saddle for vertical archery hunting, but have not heard anything about using it with a crossbow. So, anyone have crossbow specific experience with the tree saddle? Please share.

You can increase momentum by using a heavier arrow, within reason of course. Arrows of greater mass also absorb a significant amount of the energy released while shooting the crossbow, helping to reduce the stress on crossbows. I will take a 470+ grain arrow traveling at 350-375 fps anytime over a crossbow shooting a 400 grain arrow at 450+ fps.

Hunting in a blind, a narrower crossbow allows for more movement. The down fault being narrower crossbows are much harder on the string and cables resulting in less shots before repair or replacement. If you find a crossbow you like, check out the classified section on this forum. Sometimes one will find the same with a few up grades.

Next and gaining ground is hunting and calling in adult Gobblers. Like my son said when my grandson killed his first gobbler the other day. I think i like Gobbler hunting better than deer hunting i'm not there yet as to hunting A adult buck. But just killing a random deer even if it is a big buck.

Hunting deep beyond other hunters are where the big boys are. Personally I would make a makeshift blind out of small trees and brush off a well used trail near bedding areas (small hatchet) and bring a small portable folding stool with me.

Yes, when hunting on the ground the arrow often gets buried in the leaf litter and lighted nock or not it can be hard to find. Bob Vegetarian: vejiˈte(ə)rēən/noun: old Indian word for lousy hunter.
