The Island Explorer is a seasonal bus system which provides fare-free transportation on and near Mount Desert Island in Maine, United States.It is operated by Downeast Transportation and is largely intended to serve visitors to Acadia National Park as a means to reduce area traffic within the park and in area communities, including the Schoodic Peninsula.

Acadia National Park is a national park of the United States located along the mid-section of the Maine coast, southwest of Bar Harbor. The park includes about half of Mount Desert Island , part of the Isle au Haut , the tip of the Schoodic Peninsula , and portions of sixteen smaller outlying islands.
It runs for 5.84 miles (9.40 km) across the island to Bar Harbor, where it terminates at SR 3. SR 233 services Acadia National Park and provides a direct connection between Mount Desert and Bar Harbor, bypassing a 15.4-mile (24.8 km) section of SR 3 which loops the perimeter of the eastern lobe of the island. It is locally named Eagle Lake Road.
