Any, and all, mistakes I make on the first model will be lessons learned to build a much better quality second model of the same ship. I have already begun building the second model, using the lines and design and plans to build it as a plank on frame admiralty style model. On this model I am using other wood, fine hardwoods.

Other than the planks and building jig, I didn’t use much of the die-cut material provided in the kit. Given that I was looking for a little more “texture” out of my weathered boat than the smooth basswood the kit provided, I turned to my bottomless supply of scraps from various projects I’ve done over the years.
If you were building a frigate in 1:48 you'd really want the 3" size, but the 3" blocks work fine for a 1:96 scale build too. The 3" blocks are heavy, also. I use them as weights to hold frames tight to the keel/rising wood in plank on frame scratch building. Here is how I use them to glue up a frame truly square. The model is 1:64 scale:
