I intend to file child support. If father is behind, I’m under impression he will only go to jail if he doesn’t pay at all. He threatened to only pay minimum to avoid jail time. Question - if hypothetically he owes $500 monthly for 16 years but only pays $100 monthly, will he have to pay remaining balance even after child turns 18?

Unfortunately, quite awhile. The best thing to do is to call the child support enforcement office in your state (I'm assuming that is who served him) and ask them for updates. When they see that it's been more than 30 days, they should refer it to a case worker who will then take more steps to go after him.

Father pays child support but has had no contact with our children (2 boys) since 1/28/2024. Ohio law says 90 days is abandonment, child support or not. As much as we want our children to have a relationship with their dad, we also have to protect them from the pain of their father coming in and out of their life.

Ohio does allow deviation if both parents agree and they can show why it’s reasonable. Also, make sure you are using the calculator correctly for custody, medical, etc. Unless there is a huge disparity in income or the other parent is covering all medical and/or childcare, that seems high for one child with 50/50.
