So the 1970 Nova did not come factory with a coolant overflow tank (from what I have read). I noticed that my radiator always balances out to have about 2-3 inches of low coolant when cool. If I fill the radiator completely and drive it then it will puke out a fair bit upon stopping and parking the car.
Radiator overflow. Jump to Latest ... I have a 72 nova and wondering what you all use as an overflow tank.
Greetings! May be late to the party on this topic but, I just installed a radiator overflow tank on the Nova. Probably not the first to do this on the factory 3 row SBC radiator but, it was my first modification to the car. I just like to know the cooling system is full and you can judge the level in the tank to see if its "puking" after a cruise.
Do 1968-72 Nova's have a radiator overflow tank if so where can I get one thanks Tim tkm55@verizon.net 1970 Nova SS 396 4-Speed
All factory. Not much room anywhere for a tank. I was out looking at the engine bay and thought about the windshield wiper fluid tank. I never use it, mostly for show. Then I read on here on how some have used it for coolant overflow. If some of you could help. One person had used a GM 3401954 cap on the tank. It has the inlet-outlet tubes.
The ground went out on it since it went all the way to the FULL mark. Haven't touched the tank, so it must be related to when I unhooked the battery ground or something. I put the ground setup back to original without all the washers and stuff by the radiator overflow, and it still didnt work. Maybe I blew a fuse or something?
Here's mine, the overflow is a hydraulic oil filter that has AN ends on it so the top is a plug that I drilled a hole in for a vent and on the bottom is a -4 that will run to the -4 in my filler neck using aluminum tubing. I made the shroud myself and the rad is a griffin.
The other port in the overflow bottle/tank can dump to the ground. Your overflow bottle/tank should always be about 1/3 - 1/2 full with antifreeze... with the overflow line that is coming from the radiator submerged into the antifreeze within the overflow bottle/tank. As your engine heats up and pressure builds, antifreeze will run thru the ...
A overflow bottle from the 1975-1979 Novas, Venturas, Omegas will fit under the passenger side front fender behind the battery with no modifications. I have one in my 1974 Nova race car. 1974 Nova 692 HP 496 BB,
As your engine cools, coolant will be drawn back into the radiator from the recovery tank. If you keep tabs on the normal level of coolant within the recovery tank (engine hot and cold), it is easy to tell if you are loosing coolant due to the normal fluid level within the recovery tank dropping (translucent coolant recovery tank).
