Settled in 1770 on the banks of the Ammonoosuc River, Littleton has long served as a center for commerce in New Hampshire's White Mountains region. When a dam was erected on the river in the 1790's, a sawmill and gristmill were built and stores opened nearby.

The Town Clerk's Office registers all automobiles and trailers for Littleton residents. The Town Clerk is a municipal Agent for the State. The office issues plates, completes transfers and renewals on vehicles up to 26,000 lbs. gvw. (gross vehicle weight).
Planning & Zoning. Planning Board. The Planning Board reviews Subdivisions, Lot Line Adjustments and Mergers of property. Subdivision approval is required before a landowner can divide a lot into smaller lots or add building sites. Planning Board review is also required for various developments.
