TidalHealth Peninsula Regional is a non-profit hospital located in Salisbury, Maryland. Established in 1897 by Dr. George W. Todd with six beds in an old home, the institution once known as Peninsula General Hospital has grown to contain approximately 300 beds. [2] It serves nearly 500,000 patients every year in a multitude of specialties.
Underwood and Memorial hospitals were founded in 1915 and 1916, by J. Harris Underwood, MD and William Brewer, MD, respectively; they were both physicians from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The two merged in 1966 to become Underwood Memorial Hospital. [9] [10] [11]
A United States Navy destroyer, the USS Herbert J. Thomas (DD-833), was named in his honor. The destroyer was launched on March 25, 1945, and commissioned on May 29, 1945. The Thomas Memorial Hospital (now part of Thomas Health System) in South Charleston, West Virginia, is also named in his honor.
