You’ll be on the edge of stability but if you have a longer barrel and you drive them hard you’ll have the best chance. My favorite bullets for a 223 are the 73-77 grainers, but you need a 1:8 or 1:7 twist for that. For a 1:9 I would try a 50, 53, and 55 grain V-max. The 53 is my favorite.
Toprudder, my Savage model 10 in 7.62x39 also has a .308 barrel and it shoots the .310 steel-cased stuff like a champ. Sub-MOA with steel-case .310 Hornady 123-grain SST's in fact. I figured I'd be loading .308 bullets for it until I shot some .310's. Then I quicky realized it wasn't broke, so I'm not gonna fix it.
Northeast PA, USA. May 27, 2009. #8. The powders that are considered "Magnum Powders" are: AA#9, Alliant 2400, W296/H110, both IMR & H4227, Ramshot Enforcer and VV N350. You can add Hodgdon Lil'Gun for heavier bullet in the .357 Magnum. (158gr and heavier) All will do a very good job so pick the one that's made by the company you like best ...
I have my 9mm P226 loaded with Remington's Golden Saber hollowpoints, 147 grain, for my home defense load (one mag locked and ready to rock, one spare mag loaded). Wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of those gems.
I have a Smith & Wesson SW9VE Sigma. For those of you that also have this pistol what is the best 9mm ammo in your opinion for self defense?
I asked the same question over on GT and the most common response was: Speer 124-grain Gold Dot I think I will go try some this weekend.
The 350 legend is actually a 9mm not the same as a 357. This isn’t true, and you should know better by now. Well, yes and no. The SAAMI specs call for a .355 groove diameter and a .346” bore diameter. They also call for a bullet diameter of .3570” - .0030”. So a bullet as small as .3540” would still be in spec.
Handloading and Reloading. Hand-crafting ammunition to improve performance or to save money. 12 gauge Buck & Ball... because why not? No More 2400??? .30 solid copper ”plinking” and/or bird bullets? OK, this is a new one….
Looking for practice ammo (and ammo for a handgun class), fmj, brass cased, 1,000-1,500 rounds. I've checked out ammoman, any other great deals out there?
Surprisingly, I saw it for sale a few weeks ago and couldn’t resist picking it up again to give it more of a shake-down. The 469 was one of S&W’s “second generation” 9mm pistols, and it was produced from 1983 to 1988. Second Gen S&Ws are, to me, sort of the forgotten generation of the pre-M&P pistols, with Gen 1 and Gen 3 pistols ...
