The 2013 season was historic for the Clemson football program. The Tigers began the season with a 38–35 home victory over rival and fifth-ranked Georgia and ended the regular season with a record fifth-straight loss to arch-rival South Carolina, 31–17, in the first Top 10 meeting of the two schools (Clemson No. 4, Carolina No. 9).

The 1991 Hall of Fame Bowl featured the fourteenth-ranked Clemson Tigers and the sixteenth-ranked Illinois Fighting Illini. It was the fifth edition of the Hall of Fame Bowl . Clemson's Chris Gardocki kicked an 18-yard field goal as the Tigers built a 3–0 lead. They led 10–0 after DeChane Cameron threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Doug Thomas.
Although rugby is a club sport at Clemson, the team receives significant support from the university and from the Clemson Rugby Foundation, which was founded in 2007 by Clemson alumni. Clemson rugby has been led since 2010 by head coach Justin Hickey, [70] who has also served as team manager for the U.S. national under-20 team .
