The City of Groton comprises 3.06 square miles of area, 28.65 miles of improved streets and 4.9 miles of State of Connecticut highways. The Thames River bounds the City on the west and Long Island Sound on the south. The City has a population of nearly 10,000 individuals.

About Parks and Recreation. The staff of Parks & Recreation Department is responsible for maintaining 13 parks within the city limits, including Washington Park, a 32 acre park consisting of 6 ballfields, basketball courts, tennis courts, volleyball court, outdoor exercise equipment and 6 pavilions that are available to rent.
