Because although I haven't written anything up since October, I've actually been on more fossil hunting trips in the last few months than in the entirety of last year. This is mostly the result of finally getting a car again back in August after spending the back half of 2021 and almost all of 2022 without one.
Be forewarned, though, that sharks and manta rays like spawning in the water here too. The trilos are pretty good about coming ashore. Hope that helps! In the center of the center below the floating island. On the sea floor kinda near the islands east of lava island there are a fuck ton, saw literally hundreds.
Posted March 31, 2016. As an avid trilobite hunter, I have always been fascinated by the trilobites from Morocco. One of my first trilobites was one of the ubiquitous Calymenes from Morocco, and I have always wondered what collecting there would be like. Having a bit of a break before starting my new job, I found a (relatively) cheap last ...
The rarest and hardest to find trilobites are in Permian aged rock. This includes in northern Arizona the Kaibab and the Fort Apache Limestones. But the Fort Apache is a very thin bed in the Supai formation - only tens of feet thick west of Payson, and at a maximum of 100 feet thick in the inaccessible areas on the Fort Apache Indian ...
Midwest USA. Posted December 16, 2023. Well, after a year of searching, I finally found my first trilobite! They are relatively rare in my area (KC), so I’m pretty ecstatic. Decided to take this prep nice and slow, here’s the bug how I found it: Rock is thankfully not really sticky, was able to spend 40 min on this yesterday:
Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Arthropoda Latreille, 1829 Class: Trilobita Walch, 1771
I can't find any N.C. trilobite fossils, because interestingly enough, North Carolina one Cambrian fossil, the only known one being Skolithos. Few trilos are known from SC in the same age deposits, so it's possible that there are some trilobite fossils hiding in NC somewhere. SC source: The Paleontology Portal (paleoportal.org)
There were six of us experienced collectors. Each day amongst the 6 we only managed to find 2 complete lower Cambrian trilobites per day. Whole bugs are exceedingly rare, parts are not. George said he had probably been here 120 times or more and 90 of them came away with only parts.

if you are just doing it for the chitin, get a beezlebufo and go bug hunting, tons of chitin that way and tons of cement paste at the same time. win win. The easy underwater cave on the island I usually find 15-20 inside. Get a diplocalus they the best at farming trilobites and no scuba gear required.
