Taichung (/ ˌ t aɪ ˈ tʃ ʊ ŋ /, [6] Wade–Giles: Tʻai 2-chung 1, pinyin: Táizhōng), officially Taichung City, [I] is a special municipality in central Taiwan.Taichung is Taiwan's second-largest city, with more than 2.85 million residents, [7] [8] making it the largest city in Central Taiwan.
The current administrative divisions can be traced back to the 1920s under the Japanese administration, during which the local government set the village, (Ōsato village (大里庄, Ōsato sō)), under the Taiton district, Taichū Shyō (臺中州, Taichū Shyō) (Taichung today).

The first buildings to surpass 150 metres (492 ft) in Taichung is the 37–story Long-Bang Trade Plaza complex, which were completed in 1993 and are each 160 m (520 ft) tall. Currently, the tallest building in Taichung is the 47–story The Landmark (Taichung), which rises 192 metres (630 ft) and was completed in 2018.
North District (Chinese: 北區; pinyin: Běi Qū) is an urban district in the Taiwanese city of Taichung. It was a part of Taichung before the City and County were amalgamated in 2010. The North District is one of Taichung's major developed shopping, education, and cultural areas.
Central District (Chinese: 中區; pinyin: Zhōng Qū) is an urban district in Taichung City, Taiwan. It is located at the heart of the city, though it has seen decline in recent years as newer districts nearby like Xitun has seen growth.
