Hylidae is a wide-ranging family of frogs commonly referred to as "tree frogs and their allies". However, the hylids include a diversity of frog species, many of which do not live in trees, but are terrestrial or semiaquatic.
Tree frogs are members of these families or genera: Hylidae , or "true" treefrogs, occur in the temperate to tropical parts of Eurasia north of the Himalayas , Australia and the Americas . Rhacophoridae , or shrub frogs, are the treefrogs of tropical regions around the Indian Ocean : Africa , South Asia and Southeast Asia east to Lydekker's line .
Xenohyla truncata, the Izecksohn's Brazilian treefrog, is a species of frugivorous tree frog in the family Hylidae. It is endemic to the State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. [1] [2] [3] The range of this frog ranges from the southern border of Espírito Santo down to Ilha da Marambaia, inhabiting mostly restingas near the coast and on some islands. [4]
[1] The genus name comes from Ancient Greek xeno (ξένος meaning "strange" or "alien") and hyla (ὕλη meaning "wood" or "forest") which is used for tree frogs, so the genus name means "strange tree frog." Xenohyla truncata means "strange truncated tree frog" after the shape of its body.
The Suweon tree frog and the Japanese tree frog, which is also found in the same region, are the only two hylid species found on the Korean Peninsula. Factors distinguishing them include the frequency of the call, [ 7 ] calling behavior, [ 8 ] webbing between the toes and the angle of the line between eyes and nostrils. [ 9 ]
