The Leo II Groups, or Leo II Cloud, are a series of at least 110 galactic clusters and individual galaxies stretching approximately 30 Mly (9.2 Mpc) ecliptic west of the edge of the Virgo cluster. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] It is located approximately 65 Mly (20 Mpc) to 95 Mly (29 Mpc) from the Solar System , at a right ascension of 10 h 00 m to 11 h 40 m .
Its most conspicuous feature is the broad and obscuring band of dust located along the outer edge of its spiral arms, effectively transecting the galaxy to the view from Earth. Due to the presence of an x-shaped bulge, [ 9 ] visible in multiple wavelengths, it has been argued that NGC 3628 is instead a barred spiral galaxy with the bar seen end ...
The Leo Cluster (Abell 1367) is a galaxy cluster about 330 million light-years distant (z = 0.022 [1]) in the constellation Leo, with at least 70 major galaxies. The galaxy known as NGC 3842 is the brightest member of this cluster. [ 4 ]
Leo II (or Leo B) is a dwarf spheroidal galaxy about 690,000 light-years away in the constellation Leo.It is one of 24 known satellite galaxies of the Milky Way. [4] Leo II is thought to have a core radius of 178 ± 13 pc and a tidal radius of 632 ± 32 pc. [5]
Earth is getting a temporary second "mini moon," a.k.a. the 2024 PT5 asteroid. Here's how you can see it and if it will affect your astrological star sign.
The Leo Triplet, which includes the spiral galaxies M65, M66, and NGC 3628, [3] [4] [5] is located physically near the M96 Group. [10] Some group identification algorithms actually identify the Leo Triplet at part of the M96 Group. [4] [6] The two groups may actually be separate parts of a much larger group. [10]
Messier 66 or M66, also known as NGC 3627, is an intermediate spiral galaxy in the southern, equatorial half of Leo.It was discovered by French astronomer Charles Messier [8] on 1 March 1780, who described it as "very long and very faint". [9]
Leos are ruled by the sun, making people want to bask in the warm, generous, giving light. Leos have a way of making others feel beautiful and special, which is why they tend to be social butterflies.
