Baboons are among the largest non-hominoid primates and have existed for at least two million years. Baboons vary in size and weight depending on the species. The smallest, the Kinda baboon , is 50 cm (20 in) in length and weighs only 14 kg (31 lb), while the largest, the chacma baboon , is up to 120 cm (47 in) in length and weighs 40 kg (88 lb).
The baboon forages on all levels of an environment, above and beneath the ground and in the canopy of forests. [28] Most animals only look for food at one level; an arboreal species such as a lemur does not look for food on the ground. The olive baboon searches as wide an area as it can, and it eats virtually everything it finds. [28]
Like all baboons, the hamadryas baboon is omnivorous and is adapted to its relatively dry habitat. During the wet seasons, the baboon feeds on a variety of foods, including blossoms, seeds, grasses, wild roots, bark and leaves from acacia trees. [11] During the dry season, the baboons eat leaves of the Dobera glabra and sisal leaves.
Baboon researcher Esme Beamish, from Cape Town University’s Institute for Communities and Wildlife in Africa, explains that it makes sense for the monkeys to venture into the city in search of food.
The primates had all kinds of health issues, including rickets, according to the study.

The researchers used sounds, music, food, and mirrors to coax the baboons into walking upright so they could film the movements. The team then analysed the videos, breaking the movement down to 15 ...
