Lake Carroll is a private man-made recreational lake located in Carroll County, Illinois. It was formed in 1974 by the damming of the east fork of the Plum River near the town of Lanark, Illinois. The earthen dam [2] is owned and operated by the Lake Carroll Association. [3] It is the largest private lake in the state of Illinois.
Laketown takes its name from nearby Lake Springfield but does not directly adjoin the lake. The community's boundaries are defined by Stevenson Drive on the north, West Lake Shore Drive on the east, the Canadian National (formerly Illinois Central Gulf Railroad) tracks on the west, and either Circle Drive [1] or Interstate 55 on the south.
