Consumer Reports was established in 1936 to advance the Consumer Movement through product testing and advocating for consumer rights. Today the organization employs 500 people to conduct experiments at its laboratories, report the results, do journalism on consumer issues, and present the consumer perspective in policy discussions.
The area was first settled in 1835 by Erastus S. Cone (1798–1869), who bought farmland throughout Monroe County in the Michigan Territory. In 1836, his farmland in the northwest portion of the county became part of Milan Township. Cone had a very large family, and the name Cone became a prominent name in the area.
Cone Health is active in primary care, cardiology, neuroscience, oncology, orthopedics, rehabilitation, obstetrics and many other specialties. U.S. News & World Report . [ 2 ] listed Cone Health hospitals as a 2022-2023 High Performing Hospital in 17 of 20 common adult procedures and conditions.

It compares prescription drugs in over 20 major categories, such as heart disease, blood pressure and diabetes, and gives comparative ratings of effectiveness and costs, in reports and tables, in web pages and PDF documents, in summary and detailed form.
The company also publishes the Consumers’ Guide to Top Doctors, providing a list of recommended specialists in the 53 largest metro areas of the U.S. as well as the Consumers' Guide to Hospitals, providing ratings for about 4,500 U.S. acute-care hospitals, which it first published in 1988.
