Sam (November 7, 1990 – November 18, 2005) was a blind, pure-bred Chinese Crested dog, and three-time champion of the annual Sonoma-Marin Fair World's Ugliest Dog Contest in Northern California in 2003–2005. His ugliness earned him international fame.
The World’s Ugliest Dog Contest began in the 1970s as a way to generate revenue for the Old Adobe Association in Petaluma, and member Ross Smith is widely credited as the creator of the contest. After the association considered replacing their pet parade with a dog contest, Smith suggested an ugly dog contest, and the idea stuck.

His owner was Karen Quigley, a resident of Sewell, New Jersey. He was a two-year-old Chinese Crested/chihuahua mixed breed. [1] Elwood died on November 28, 2013. He was eight years old. [2]
