The Fort Lauderdale Stakes is a Grade II American Thoroughbred horse race open for three years old or older, over a distance of one and one-eighth miles on the turf track held annually in December at Gulfstream Park, Hallandale Beach, Florida. The event currently carries a purse of $215,000.

Frank Stronach first proposed the idea for the race during the Thoroughbred Owners Conference at Gulfstream in January 2016. [8] His original proposal called for an annual 1 + 1 ⁄ 4-mile (10 furlong) race to be run at either Gulfstream or Santa Anita Park in mid to late January, which would not interfere with the Breeders' Cup or the Dubai World Cup. Colts were not permitted to carry more than 126 pounds, and Fillies were not permitted to carry more than 121 pounds. A total of 441 horses were nominated to enter into the 2001 Kentucky Derby. [5]

Golden Miller (1927–1957) was a Thoroughbred racehorse who is the most successful Cheltenham Gold Cup horse ever, winning the race in five consecutive years between 1932 and 1936. He also is the only horse to win both of the United Kingdom 's premier steeplechase races - the Cheltenham Gold Cup and the Grand National - in the same year (1934).
