Kingman is city in and county seat of Mohave County, Arizona, United States. It is named after Lewis Kingman , an engineer for the Atlantic and Pacific Railroad . It is located 105 miles (169 km) southeast of Las Vegas , Nevada, and 180 miles (290 km) northwest of Arizona's state capital, Phoenix . [ 5 ]
The jail serving the county in 2023, at 501 Historic Route 66 in Kingman, was built in 2010. It is a 688 bed county jail, about a half mile from the courthouse and 1909 jail. [7] [8] Both buildings were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. [1]
Mohave County occupies the northwestern corner of the U.S. state of Arizona, one of 15 counties in the state.As of the 2020 census, its population was 213,267. [1] The county seat is Kingman, [2] and the largest city is Lake Havasu City.
In January 1880, Kingman's assignment was to survey and establish a railroad line from Flagstaff, Arizona to the Colorado River via Topock, Arizona. Kingman was in charge of the railroad contract work from Winslow to Beale Springs. In December 1881, Kingman was appointed chief engineer with a full charge of the railroad construction.

So-Hi is in central Mohave County, 8 miles (13 km) northwest of Kingman, the county seat. U.S. Route 93 runs past the south end of the community, leading southeast into Kingman and northwest 100 miles (160 km) to Las Vegas , Nevada.
