Bayou Place is a 130,000 square foot [1] entertainment complex that houses multiple theaters, bars, and restaurants located in Downtown Houston, Texas, United States. The complex was the former Albert Thomas convention center located in the Houston Theater District at 500 Texas Street (originally built in the late 1960s).
It is owned and operated by The Center for the Performing Arts at The Woodlands and is a non-profit organization. In March 2014, Huntsman signed a five-year contract to be the pavilion's presenting sponsor. [1] The amphitheater seats 16,500 people and has been the second-most heavily used amphitheater in the world. [2]
The segments can actually be lowered enough to close the upper balcony, so the seating capacity therefore fluctuates from about 2,300 with the balcony covered to 2,911 with the balcony open. The building won the 1967 American Institute of Architects ' Honor Award, which is bestowed on only one building annually.
Since the venue has opened, it has hosted several Broadway productions and family shows including Sesame Street Live, Yo Gabba Gabba!
