It is the only high school in the Hardin Northern Local School district. It serves the villages of Dunkirk and Dola. Their mascot is the Polar Bears. They are a member of the Northwest Central Conference. [3]
WDOE (1410 AM) is a radio station located in Dunkirk, New York. It is owned by Alan Bishop, who also owns sister station WBKX in Fredonia. The station operates on an AM frequency of 1410 kHz. On December 7, 2012, WDOE began simulcasting on an FM translator at 94.9 MHz. On November 5, 2020, it added a second FM signal at 101.5 MHz.

The town has a lending library, the Dunkirk Public Library. [11] The town also has an Elementary School, Westlawn Elementary and a Middle school, West Jay Middle School (slated to be closed in 2020 and middle school students sent to the High School). They are both located in the city limits and are a part of Jay County School Corporation.
