Alamo Heights is a city in Bexar County, Texas, United States, that is surrounded by the city of San Antonio. At the time of the 2020 census, the population of Alamo Heights was 7,357. [5] It is part of the Greater San Antonio metropolitan area. A portion of the University of the Incarnate Word is in Alamo Heights.
It is part of the San Antonio Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community is named after Frederick Terrell, a local bank president who had served as mayor of San Antonio in 1901. Development of the community began in 1919, when Terrell sold 22.5 acres (9.1 ha) of property to a private association called the Terrell Hills Community.
The Alamo region is an area of 19 counties defined by the Texas Comptroller for economic reporting in 2022, as mapped here. The region included 2020 population of almost 2.9 million, or 9.8 percent of Texas' population, with the San Antonio-New Braunfels MSA having 89 percent of the Alamo region's population and Bexar alone having 70 percent.
