The Polish hussars ( / həˈzɑːrs /; Polish: husaria [xuˈsarja] ), [a] alternatively known as the winged hussars, were a heavy cavalry formation active in Poland and in the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth from 1503 to 1702.
