The Muri Lagoon is a lagoon in the district of Ngatangiia on the eastern coast of Rarotonga in the Cook Islands. The lagoon is a significant tourist attraction and the largest tourism revenue earner in the Cook Islands, [ 1 ] accounting for 25% of tourism bed usage on Rarotonga. [ 2 ]
Te Muri Regional Park is a peninsula formed between the Te Muri-O-Tarariki Stream to the north and the Puhoi River to the south. The eastern coastline of the regional park, Te Muri Beach, is the location of Te Muri urupa / cemetery. [2] The highest point in the regional park is Pūhoi, an 138 metres (453 ft) hill. [3]

Due to Muri's proximity to Bern and good weather, it was a popular place for patricians to build mansions. Between 1650 and 1652 von Deisbach bought up land and built the castle. The earliest known picture of the castle, by Kauw in 1670, shows the compact main building with a pointed stair tower.
