The NSPCL Bhilai Power Plant is a coal-fired captive power station at Bhilai in Durg district, Chhattisgarh, India.The power station owned and operated by NSPCL is a 50:50 joint venture company of NTPC Limited and SAIL to generate power for captive purposes of various steel plants owned by SAIL.
Since 2006, NSPCL has provided all power required by the Bhilai, Durgapur and Rourkela steel plants. To meet growing demands, NSPCL commissioned an expansion project at Bhilai comprising two 250 MW generators during 2008–2009, and brought the units online in 2009–2010.
It manages the captive power plants at Rourkela, Durgapur and Bhilai with a combined capacity of 314 MW. It has installed additional capacity by implementation of 500 MW (2 x 250 MW Units) power plant at Bhilai. The commercial generation of Unit 1 commenced in April 2009 and the Unit 2 in October 2009.
