As the birthplace of volleyball, the United States founded the first association to regulate the sport. The United States Volleyball Association was formed in 1927, and was the founding member of FIVB in 1947. [1] However, by the time of volleyball's international growth in the 1940s, the U.S. was no longer a major power.
Until the creation of the NCAA Men's Division III Volleyball Championship in 2012, there was only a single national championship for men's volleyball. As such, all NCAA men's volleyball programs, whether from Division I, Division II, or Division III, were eligible. A total of 4 teams were invited to contest this championship.
Another D-II member, Alliance, had announced it would add men's volleyball and play in the ECC, [10] but closed before the start of the 2023–24 school year. John Speraw (born October 18, 1971) is an American volleyball coach and former player. He currently serves as the President and CEO of USA Volleyball.Prior to this, he served as head coach of the United States men's national volleyball team, the UCLA Bruins men's volleyball team, and the UC Irvine Anteaters men's volleyball team.
