County Route 17 is a 5.53-mile (8.90 km) county road located in western Suffolk County. The route runs south-to-north from NY 27A in East Islip to NY 111 in Hauppauge, just south of exit 56 on I-495 (the Long Island Expressway). Originally, CR 17 was an alignment of NY 111 (designated as State Highway 1208 internally).
After exit 39, the Northern State Parkway proceeds eastward as a four-lane freeway, crossing through West Hills County Park, where it winds through dense woods east and southeast through Huntington. Passing north of a cemetery, the parkway enters exit 40, which was formerly a cloverleaf interchange with NY 110 (Walt Whitman Road).
