Mayuri Kurotsuchi (涅 マユリ, Kurotsuchi Mayuri) is a fictional character in the Bleach anime and manga created by Tite Kubo. He is the current captain of the 12th Division of the Gotei 13 and overseer of the Soul Reapers' Research and Development Institute.
Renji, Uryū and Nel's Fracciones are saved by Mayuri, who stops Szayel's techniques. Mayuri initially seems unable to fight back against Szayelaporro, but he reveals that placed a bacteria in Uryū that allow him to learn of the voodoo dolls and counter them. Mayuri then activates his bankai and has it swallow Szayelaporro.
Mayuri tells Ichigo that as his Zanpakutō was destroyed while in Bankai state, it cannot be fixed. The captains mourn Yamamoto, Byakuya and Kenpachi are still in a critical state and may never wake. His bankai allows Rose to use music to create the illusion of physical pain (burning, drowning, etc.) as long as his opponents hear the music. But bankai is useless against opponents who are deaf or who deafen themselves.
