Pontotoc County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. As of the 2020 census, the population was 31,184. [ 1] Its county seat is Pontotoc. [ 2] It was created on February 9, 1836, from lands ceded to the United States under the Chickasaw Cession. Pontotoc is a Chickasaw word meaning "land of hanging grapes".
1960–1962. The original routing of MS 338 was a short-lived (between 1960 and 1962) state highway designation for Antioch Road in western Pontotoc County, Mississippi. It ran north–south for 6.0 miles (9.7 km), from MS 9 near Randolph to MS 334 in Toccopola. The entire route (as it still is today) was a narrow two-lane highway.
