Hell Up in Harlem is a 1973 blaxploitation American neo-noir film, [2] starring Fred Williamson and Gloria Hendry. Written and directed by Larry Cohen , it is a sequel to the film Black Caesar . The film's soundtrack was recorded by Edwin Starr and released by Motown Records in January 1974.
[5] The result was Hell Up in Harlem. The sequel contradicts the film's original ending, and so the two films appear to lack continuity when viewed back-to-back on home video, as Gibbs is still alive in Hell Up in Harlem, despite dying in Black Caesar. In 2001, it was released on DVD, featuring an audio commentary by director Larry Cohen. [7]
