Tropentarn ("tropical camouflage") is the name of a lighter weight cotton-polyester fabric printed with the German 5-color Flecktarn camouflage pattern used by the Bundeswehr for their military uniforms. Uniforms made in this fabric are for service in warmer, tropical regions.
Waffen-SS troops were pioneering among German forces in the use of camouflage clothing and wore it extensively during the war. Usually, the camouflage patterns were worn on overall parkas, reversible smocks or helmet covers, with camouflaged tunics being introduced later during the war.
