The Nevada Journal provides in-depth coverage of local and regional issues as well as sports and is the official newspaper for the City of Nevada. [20] National news coverage is provided on a daily basis by the Des Moines Register and the Ames Tribune.
The newspaper came into being when the Nevada State Journal (founded on November 23, 1870) and the Reno Evening Gazette (founded on March 28, 1876) were combined on October 7, 1983. [2] Speidel Newspapers bought the Gazette on October 1, 1939, and bought the Journal a month later. [3] Gannett bought Speidel Newspapers on May 11, 1977. [4]
As of mid-January, in hard-hit West Virginia, there are just 235 doctors who are certified to dispense buprenorphine, according to the Drug Enforcement Administration. There are 183 in Nevada, 89 in Arkansas and 60 in Iowa. In all of Texas, a state of roughly 27 million people, there are only 1,046 doctors certified to prescribe the medications.
Sammons ran the Journal until his death in 1944. One of his accomplishments was purchasing in 1941 the Journal's primary competitor, the erstwhile pro-Democratic Sioux City Tribune. Since the Journal was a morning paper and the Tribune an evening paper, for over 30 years they continued both papers with a merged staff. [8]
