Isuzu's Philippine debut came in the 1950s through its line of trucks. In 1972, General Motors and Isuzu formed a joint venture during the 1970s to create GM Philippines. In 1989, Isuzu Motors Pilipinas became a subsidiary of Isuzu Motors Ltd. Since 1995, it was renamed Isuzu Philippines Corporation.
The company was founded by Inocencio Aniceto, a native of Ilocos Sur. [citation needed] The Aniceto family also owns and operates the Aniceto Mansion Hotel in Vigan. The company has grown into one of the most popular transit services in Manila, alongside Philippine Rabbit and the now-defunct Maura Transit.
In 1950, it started manufacturing bus and truck bodies mounted on leading US brands, being International Harvester, Ford, Chevrolet, and the Dodge Chassis. Also, in the 1950s, its sister company, the Emcos Development & Supply Co., Inc. was the leading distributor of International Harvester Macleod, Inc. in Northern Luzon marketing bus chassis, trucks, tractors, agricultural and farm implements.
