Charmayne Maxena Maxwell (January 11, 1969 – February 28, 2015 [1]), professionally known as Maxee, was a Guyana-born American singer and songwriter. In the mid-1990s, Maxwell came to prominence as a member of the female R&B trio Brownstone .
The three original members of Brownstone were Monica "Mimi" Doby, Charmayne Maxena "Maxee" Maxwell and Nichole "Nicci" Gilbert. [2] Founded in Los Angeles, the singers met each other after attending various auditions around the city. They formed the group and were signed to Michael Jackson's MJJ Music record label less than a year later.
Since 1993 he had been living in Los Angeles in the USA with his girlfriend Charmayne Maxwell, former vocalist of American R&B group Brownstone, with whom he has a son, Nicholas. His music career began as a DJ, when in 1989 he came joint third place in the DMC European Mixing Championships.
Maxwell was born in Brooklyn, New York, the son of a Haitian mother and a Puerto Rican father. His mother grew up in a devout Baptist household in Haiti. [11] [12] [13] Maxwell's father died in a plane crash around 1976 or 1977 when Maxwell was three years old. [14] Maxwell grew up in the Brooklyn neighborhood of East New York. [15]
